‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
My Grace is sufficient -The secret of being able to do what you need to do is in realising that you cannot do it alone; you can only do it through God’s empowering grace. God said to Paul, ‘My grace is sufficient for you,’ and the word ‘grace’ includes ‘all of God you will ever need for whatever you face in life’. What a promise!
Sometimes we think we have to do it all. We forget that the power of Christ works through us, so we’re defeated before we even begin. ‘We are labourers together with God’ (1 Corinthians 3:9 KJV). We can’t do God’s part, and He won’t do our part. He wants us to follow His leading, but He insists that we depend on Him every step of the way. This is hard on our ego which says, ‘I can do it myself!’ Sometimes we have to be beaten into the ground before we let go of this kind of thinking. Knowing that we have certain gifts and talents, we make the mistake of assuming we can use them to succeed in our own strength. No, unless God’s grace is operating through your gift, you won’t be adequate to the challenge.
The Bible says, ‘We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us’ (Romans 12:6 NIV). Grace is like electricity; in order for it to function effectively, you must stay plugged in. Jesus said: ‘No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me…apart from me you can do nothing’ (John 15:4-5 NIV). So, depend more on God.
From a Different angle
Relying more on God and His grace can bring us strength, for as it is written in 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV), “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” This verse reminds us that when we feel weak or inadequate, God’s grace is more than enough to sustain us. In our moments of vulnerability, His power shines through and empowers us.
1 Corinthians 3:9 (KJV) further emphasizes the importance of relying on God. It states, “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” This verse reminds us that we are co-workers with God, and our strength comes from aligning ourselves with His will and purpose. We are like a field that God cultivates and a building that He constructs. By recognizing our partnership with Him, we acknowledge our need for His guidance and strength in everything we do.
Romans 12:6 (NIV) speaks of the diverse gifts and talents that God has given each of us: “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” God has uniquely equipped us with various abilities and talents to serve Him and others. By embracing these gifts and using them according to His grace, we can bring glory to His name and fulfill His purposes.
Lastly, John 15:4-5 (NIV) provides an analogy of abiding in Christ, stating, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.” These verses emphasize the importance of staying connected to Jesus, for apart from Him, we can accomplish nothing of eternal significance. By remaining in Him, we find our strength, purpose, and the ability to bear much fruit in our lives.
In summary, these verses encourage us to depend more on God, recognizing His grace, relying on His power, embracing the gifts He has given us, and remaining connected to Him. Through this dependence, we find strength, purpose, and the ability to bear fruit for His glory.
